From Concept to Completion

Many architectural publications present impressive buildings. They celebrate the finished object, the carefully composed photograph, the moment of completion. What often remains unseen is the path that leads there.

Throughout my studies and professional practice, I repeatedly observed that this path is rarely documented. The decisions, doubts, changes of direction, technical constraints, and collaborative processes that truly shape architecture are often concealed behind the final image. Yet architecture is not a static end product, but an open, dynamic, and deeply collaborative process.

This book emerged from the desire to make this process visible. Not in abstract terms, but through a real project: a multifamily residence in Thurgau, Switzerland. From the earliest conversations through design, planning, and construction to completion, this publication traces the many steps required to transform an idea into built reality.

Architecture does not evolve in a linear manner. It develops within a field of tension defined by site, client, regulations, technology, and architectural intent. Decisions must be questioned, assumptions revised, and solutions continuously refined. It is precisely this evolution, with all its adjustments and recalibrations, that forms the core of this book.

This book is intended for architects, students, and readers who wish to understand how architecture is truly made. It is not a manual, but an insight into design thinking, decision-making, and the realities of building beyond renderings and finished images.
